This program works with family members coping with an adult family member with serious and persistent mental illness. The goals of the program are to provide families with:
- Information and education about mental illness and available resources for mental health treatment and supportive social services.
- Assistance with improving coping skill that can enrich family life, decrease family stress and improve family functioning.
Services are provided on an individual and/or group basis, and include:
- Consultation with a program staff member to develop an individualized plan for assistance;
- Respite services that provide temporary relief for family members with caretaking responsibility for the individual with the mental illness;
- Referral and linkage with available community services; advocacy for family members to assist them in obtaining available services;
- Weekly transporaton to and from Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in Morris Plains to make visiting the hospital easier for family members.
Services are delivered at times and locations convenient to family members, such as family homes, local coffee shops, libraries, as well as in the Center’s three sites located in Washington, Phillipsburg and Hackettstown.
The program works closely with the NAMI-Warren County chapter in their role of supporting and advocating for services for those with mental illness and their families.
There is no fee for services provided.
